A man has been charged after shoes worth thousands of pounds were allegedly stolen from a lorry while the driver slept at a motorway service station.
Officers say the property, worth just shy of £23,000, was reported stolen in the early hours of Friday (April 11) from a parked vehicle at the M2 services in Gillingham.
A security guard spotted suspicious activity near some parked cars and alerted the police.
Patrols were deployed along the London-bound carriageway of the motorway and shortly after a truck was stopped in Cadogan Terrace, Stratford, London.
A man was arrested and constables also seized boxes of shoes worth almost £23,000.
Michael Tremarco, of St Agnes Drive, Canvey Island, Essex, was later charged on suspicion of theft, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
The 35-year-old appeared before Medway Medway Magistrates’ Court on Saturday (April 12).
He has since been remanded to a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on Friday, May 9.
