The very first Made in Sussex Film Festival will take place at the Depot Cinema in Lewes from April 25 to April 27, 2025.
The festival aims to shine a light on the creativity of filmmakers working in, around, and inspired by, Sussex.
It will feature a variety of films, from “urgent documentaries” to “poetic dramas” and promises to showcase the “richness” of local storytelling.
The festival’s inaugural feature film line-up includes six titles: ‘Finally Nearly Getting There’, ‘The Forest in Me’, ‘Splinter’, ‘Leave No Trace Brighton’, ‘The Captain’, and ‘Fright’.
The short film programme includes ‘The Dog in the Long Grass’, ‘First Sight’, and ‘Just Plain Ben’, alongside others.
The event will culminate in the awarding of the Best Director accolade, which this year comes with a £10,000 grant to finance the winner’s next Sussex-based film.
This prize is sponsored by Clear Futures, who are committed to supporting new voices in local cinema.

Winning filmmakers will also receive an Apple MacBook Pro to assist with their next project.
These prizes were made possible through the support of festival partners, including Community Energy Pathways, who are contributing a laptop to the Best Documentary Feature category.
