JB’s American Diner, located in King’s Road in Brighton, announced on social media on March 14 that it was closing “after 17 incredible years of serving you with immediate effect”.

“Our lease has reached its conclusion due to planned building renovations marking the end of an era for our small, independent family business”, the post continued.

The retro-style diner sold a selection of milkshakes, burgers, nachos, grilled meat, pancakes and other American fare.

Customers enjoyed their food to the sounds of Frank Sinatra and Motown whilst watching old episode of Tom and Jerry on the television, with food served by servers decked out in vintage uniform.

The post said: “We would also like to express our deepest appreciation to our trustworthy suppliers and, most importantly, to all our exceptional team members for the past 17 years.

“Your hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm have been the backbone of our success, and we are truly honoured to have worked alongside such talented individuals.

“As we say goodbye, please know that we will carry the fond memories of this community in our hearts. We look forward to future projects and hope to cross paths again in new endeavours.”

People rushed to express their sadness underneath the post, with one saying “you been a staple from both my childhood and adulthood in that time and I will be devastated to see you go.”

Another said: “I’ve been coming here for 17 years. At one time we would come here once a week in an attempt to drink every single milkshake on the menu.

“I took all my first dates here, as well as friends, relatives, and business associates. I came here to celebrate birthdays, Christmas and Halloween.

“It was the best place in Brighton to hang out and had the best milkshakes I’ve ever tasted anywhere. I don’t know where I’m going to hang out now.”
