Arieh Smith, known on social media as Xiaomanyc, is a social media sensation who travels the world learning about languages and cultures.

He describes himself as “a polyglot who has studied dozens of languages”.

Recently, he visited Glasgow to find out about the “crazy dialect”.

In a YouTube video with more than 200,000 views to date, Arieh was joined by local Arran, whom he described as “the person with the thickest Scottish accent I have ever heard”.

The two men spent the day around the city.

The American learned about phrases such as “You alright?”, “taps aff”, “hen night”, “stag do”, “gaff”, “hunners”.

He also had some lentil soup, which he described as “pure dead brilliant”.

The YouTuber told locals: “It’s like you’re speaking a different language.

“I really wanted to come here because I just feel like the language is so distinct and interesting. It’s fascinating.

“I need live captioning to what you’re saying.”

Finally, the tourists tried Buckfast and a deep fried Mars bar.
