Gillingham’s League 2 rivals MK Dons have confirmed their interim management team after axing former Chatham boss Scott Lindsey.
Jamie Day – who was assistant manager at Gillingham under Ady Pennock – stays at MK Dons as part of an interim team headed by Ben Gladwin.
Lindsey, who played for the Gills and has often been linked with the management position at Priestfield, got the sack after a poor run of results at Stadium MK.
He left Crawley Town in September, having led them to promotion from League 2 last season through the play-offs. They had beaten MK Dons 8-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals.
Lindsey took over a team struggling in the EFL basement side at the time but initially got instant success at his new club, and they rose as high as third in the table, before plummeting back down the order, leaving them 17th in the league.
Day was his no.2 and he stays on for now while the club look to recruit a new manager for next season. Former Chatham director of football Carl Larman has also left the Dons.
A Dons statement said: “Everyone at MK Dons would like to sincerely thank Scott for his efforts during his time in Milton Keynes and wish him every success in the future.
“MK Dons will now conduct an extensive and comprehensive interview process ahead of appointing a head coach to lead the team next season.”
MK Dons sit a place and a point above the Gills in the League 2 table.
Fellow strugglers Tranmere Rovers, meanwhile, are also on the hunt for a new manager. They are three points above the drop zone.
Former Charlton boss Nigel Adkins left them ahead of the weekend “by mutual agreement” after 15 months in charge, following a loss to Accrington Stanley. Coach Andy Crosby took over for their weekend game with Port Vale.
Rovers chairman Mark Palios said: “Compared to the optimism at the start of the season we both acknowledge our league position is disappointing and that football is a results business.
“As a consequence, we have sadly both come to the conclusion that a change of Manager will give the team the best chance of making the most of the remaining 13 games.”
