Last Friday (February 21) an area of the A259 was closed after it was discovered that the Royal Albion Hotel in Brighton was at risk of “catastrophic failure”.

Work began today to demolish a section of the hotel.

The Bloomsbury Group, which is managing demolition works at the Royal Albion, confirmed that work is “progressing as planned”.

In a statement, a spokesman from the firm also added that the demolition includes the “safe removal of asbestos-containing materials” which certified specialists are dealing with.

“We have been asked to provide an update on the ongoing works at the Royal Albion Hotel, managed by The Bloomsbury Group,” said the spokesman.

“As part of our commitment to safety and regulatory compliance, we are undertaking essential asbestos removal works.

“This phase involves the demolition of dangerous structures on-site, including the safe removal of asbestos-containing materials from the site.

“Our certified specialists are carrying out the process in strict accordance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, with air monitoring and suppression systems in place as required to minimise risks to the public.

“The site remains secure, with controlled access, and the removal works are progressing as planned.”
