A zoo has issued a warning after customers were targeted with adverts for discount tickets.
Wingham Wildlife Park, between Canterbury and Sandwich, says the offer has nothing to do with them and posted a screenshot on Facebook earlier today and headed it “scam alert”.
It shows an edited image – originally taken at Chester Zoo – of two children in front of a sign featuring puffins.
Those behind the page have photoshopped the Kent park’s logo onto the original.
Posted from an account called Zoo Tickets, it reads: “Exclusive Deal: Grab four zoo tickets for just £2!
“To mark the 40th anniversary of the UK’s top zoo, we’re offering only 250 tickets!
“Grab your chance to seize this amazing deal and create unforgettable memories. Purchase now.”
A link then leads to a website, called Magnum Labs Official, but again featuring Wingham Wildlife’s logo and accompanied by reviews and pictures.
The animal park has warned customers not to pass on any of their details.
Spokesman for the attraction, Markus Wilder, told KentOnline: “We have tried everything we can.
“We reported it many times to Facebook then we look back the next day and it’s still there.
“We know a few customers have been caught out.
“We haven’t had anyone turn up with tickets from them, but people have phoned up in the last two days because they hadn’t received any confirmation or tickets.
“They are advertising this £2 ticket deal, but then they get to the checkout and are being charged £30 or £40.”
Mr Wilder says the only company the park does deals with – other than those on its own genuine website – are Kid Pass, which arranges discounted tickets for attractions across the UK.
He added: “We feel so bad for people that are being trapped by it.
“If anyone is unsure if something is legitimate, please get in touch and check with us.”
Wingham is not the only business which is being targeted.
Several other pages, all named zoo tickets, have been set up on Facebook.
Chester Zoo, in Cheshire, has had multiple accounts set up in its name.
