“That’s been very successful as it is drawing more people in and they are spending a bit more time in the showroom seeing the different collections,” he said.

One of the reasons for The Big Sofa Warehouse’s popularity is the choice of over 500 different fabrics for the bespoke range.

“We also have a wide range of styles as we are always keeping up with the trends,” said Mr Ferguson. “At the moment, u-shaped sofas are quite popular and we have got quite a lot of tech sofas for cinema rooms that we do quite well with. These have ambient lighting beneath them as well as speakers and cup holders built into them.

“The u-shaped sofas are large four seater sofas with two large detachable stools that you can break it up into different combinations and move about.”

One of the benefits of buying from The Big Sofa Warehouse is that the business offers a measuring service so that if a customer is unsure of the size of sofa that would best suit their home, a member of staff can go out to measure the space and advise on the type of sofa to fit.

“We can make the sofa to size,” explained Mr Ferguson. “Not everybody can fit in a standard-sized sofa into their room. Maybe the sofa they like is 3.4m in length but they only have space for a 2.9m sofa. We can bespoke the sofa to their measurements.”

He also tries to stock a range of prices to suit every budget with the cheapest starting off for around £699 for a three seater sofa or small corner sofa.

There is also a range of sofas that are more high end and every month there is a star buy which at the moment is a five seater recliner for £999.

“We always have a couple of deals on,” said Mr Ferguson.

As a result of the success of The Big Sofa Warehouse at its new site in Hillington, two new members of staff have been taken on in the last few weeks and Mr Ferguson plans to take on more as the company expands.

He has also taken on a new storage facility which enabled the enlargement of the Hillington premises into a full showroom.

Now Connor has his sights set on conquering more of Central Scotland with a new showroom to the east of Glasgow, possibly in Edinburgh.

It will offer the range of styles and fabrics that can be seen at Hillington.

“We have over 500 materials and if you come in and see a sofa you like but we haven’t got the right colour for you, then we are doing something wrong because there is definitely plenty of material here,” said Mr Ferguson. “There are all different textures from suede to chenille and we have just started a nice herring bone fabric as well.”

Trends right now appear to be bright colours, with blues and greens selling fast although beige is still popular, according to Mr Ferguson.

“There is a book with over 50 different patterns for our custom-made range so customers can tailor their preferences,” he said.

He believes few other places can deliver their custom-made furniture as quickly as The Big Sofa Warehouse.

“I can get the order made in three to four weeks and the service we can provide means a customer can come into our showroom, take a look at all our different collections, pick their material and the style as well as the size they want as we make the frames too. We can make it all bespoke.”

He added: “Hillington is also a great place to be as there are a lot of other home product suppliers nearby so people can shop for tiles or new kitchens at the same time as their soft furnishings.”

The sofas come with a 12 month warranty and there a wide-ranging collection of styles ready for immediate dispatch with free express delivery for standard sizes and styles.

The business also offers an easy five day return service for customers who change their minds about their order.

Returns are few and far between, however, as customer reviews are positive, for delivery and service as well as the workmanship of the sofas.

“We have worked hard to find quality suppliers offering a wide range of products and I am very pleased with the expansion of the showroom as it gives customers a better idea of what we can offer,” said Mr Ferguson.

“I am happy with the way the business is going and our next step is to conquer the Edinburgh area!”
