Expedia says that long-haul destinations such as Fukuoka, Nagoya, Rio de Janeiro and Maui are increasing in popularity for this time of year.
In a statement, they said: “The Expedia Spring Travel Outlook released today shows that Gothenburg tops the chart as the most trending destination with searches up 410% year-on-year.
“This is followed by Fukuoka at 175% and Olbia at 155%, two coastal destinations known for their beautiful waterfronts, vibrant food scene, and rich history.”
Top trending destinations for Brits in spring 2025
According to the Expedia Spring Travel Outlook, the trending destinations Brits are heading to this spring are:
- Gothenburg (+410% in search year-on-year)
- Fukuoka (+175%)
- Olbia (+155%)
- Nagoya (+150%)
- Rio de Janeiro (+145%)
- Okinawa (+140%)
- Maui (+135%)
- Heraklion (+125%)
- Basel (+125%)
- Tallinn (+125%)
They add: “Long-haul coastal destinations are also on the rise. Known for its stunning beaches and iconic landmarks like Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf Mountain, Rio de Janeiro is up 145%.
“Maui has also seen a rise of 135%, famous for its lush national parks, volcano and world-class surfing.”
Expedia reveals cheapest dates to travel in spring 2025
Expedia has shared that the cheapest dates to fly out this spring are all fairly late in the season on May 18, 29 and 30.
Meanwhile, the most expensive dates to fly out for a trip are April 3 and 5.
The quietest days for flying out on holiday will be April 29 and May 13 and 20, while the busiest days will be March 28 and 29 and May 24.
Melanie Fish, a spokesperson for Expedia Brands, said: “Brits are swapping short spring breaks for long haul holidays, thanks to the favourable Bank Holiday schedule.
