Explorer and educator Dan Buettner has revealed there is one longevity superfood that “everyone can afford” – can you guess what it is?
The National Geographic fellow who is also the Blue Zones founder has explained why sweet potatoes can be the secret to “living longer”.
Is sweet potato actually good for you? Why they can help you live longer
In a post on Instagram to his 658k followers, he recently shared: “Ideally it would be a purple sweet potato but regular sweet potatoes are just fine.
“They are full of complex carbohydrates, they have protein (around 2.1g), they’re cheap, they taste delicious, they’re full of micronutrients, and guess what? You can find them wherever you live.”
Alongside the video of Dan’s interesting facts about sweet potatoes, the caption said: “Want to live longer? Eat more sweet potatoes.
“Okinawans – one of the longest-lived populations on Earth – get over 60% of their daily calories from these vibrant, nutrient-packed tubers.”
Dan also noted that the root vegetables are loaded with fiber for gut health and antioxidants to fight inflammation.
The 64-year-old added: “Forget the latest diet trend – longevity is built on simple, whole foods like this.”
Currently, one large loose sweet potato at Tesco costs 42p – or a 1kg bag is priced at £1.19 and is an Aldi price match.
