Principal Dentist Dr Laura McGrath believes people are now more aware of their teeth and the importance of an attractive smile.
“Improving your smile can really boost your confidence,” she said. “You can see the difference in before and after pictures as the smiles after treatment are much more genuine. We are really looking forward to creating some lovely smiles here.”
The new clinic opens this month (February) and is the latest location for Smmmile which was launched in 2020 by co-founders Sandeep Kumar and Raph Pascaud, who are passionate about transforming the dental care experience. Their mission is to make exceptional dental care accessible without compromising on quality or service.
With the launch of its Glasgow location, Smmmile now proudly operates across five key cities, including Newcastle, Leeds, Nottingham and Bristol.
The Glasgow branch brings Smmmile’s expertise to Scotland, providing a comprehensive range of treatments tailored to meet patients’ individual smile goals.
There are flexible dental plans designed for long-term care with the aim of making routine dental visits simple and accessible for all members of the family.
Smmmile has invested in the latest technology, making the Glasgow clinic an industry leader. One of the fantastic innovations is the Smile Simulation Technology, which enables patients to preview their new smile before committing to treatment. This provides client with an accurate picture of how their new smile will look, giving confidence in the work to be carried out.
Another innovation at the clinic is a 3D Scanner to provide a highly accurate digital scan for smile planning and precise treatment execution. There is also AI-powered software to enhance accuracy and predictability in procedures like smile makeovers.
After treatment, Remote Monitoring uses extraordinary technology to let patients track their progress while staying in close communication with their dentist, reducing the need for frequent clinic visits.
“These technological advantages are a key part of our patient experience, making treatment more precise, comfortable and effective,” said Dr McGrath.
As the principal dentist, she will lead the staff at the clinic who have all been selected for their wealth of experience in dental work.
Originally from Limerick in the Irish Republic, she graduated from University College Cork in 2008 and has built up her dental skills over a period of almost 20 years.
First practising in Edinburgh working for the NHS, she then worked in Sydney in Australia before moving back to the UK to build on her private skills set.
One of the treatments offered at the clinic is Invisalign for straightening teeth. Dr McGrath has five years of training and experience working with the product, along with bonding, veneers and other dental treatments.
She first met Sandeep Kumar at a training session and he was so impressed with her skills he asked her to head up the Glasgow clinic.
One of the UK’s leading Invisalign providers, Dr Sandeep has created more than 6,000 sparkling new smiles with Invisalign.
“He is a father figure in dentistry and at Smmmile we believe that everyone deserves a healthy, beautiful smile,” said Dr McGrath. “We not only provide Invisalign, which is recognised as the most advanced clear aligner system in the world, but the whole gamut of dental treatments.”
Smmmile Glasgow offers comprehensive smile makeovers, which can include composite bonding and whitening in addition to teeth straightening and general dentistry.
“Invisalign is a great treatment base to get the mouth in a good position with a nice stable bite, then you can build on that,” said Dr McGrath. “Some veneers and composite bonding do not last very well if you don’t have a favourable bite.”
In line with Smmmile philosophy, the clinic’s aim is to improve people’s smiles using minimal invasion.
The procedure starts with a free, no-obligation Smmmile consultation.
A full oral health check is carried out, followed by a tailor-made treatment plan that leverages the latest dental technology. Developed in close collaboration between the patient and dentist, it ensures the best possible results every time.
If the teeth are misaligned then treatment will be carried out to straighten them first, making any other procedures easier and less invasive.
The combination of minimal invasion and having the teeth in a good position means there is no need for “turkey teeth” which are teeth that have been cut down to little pegs in order to fit veneers.
“We are the complete opposite of that because we want to keep things minimal,” said Dr McGrath. “If you have teeth in the correct position you have a lot more scope to improve and enhance. We are really trying to keep the teeth as minimally touched as we possibly can.”
Once the teeth are aligned properly, a composite bonding treatment is easier to carry out.
“That is very in vogue and when planned and executed well it is a lovely treatment,” said Dr McGrath. “Often when we align the teeth there are little bits of wear and tear. The teeth are in a good position but they might not be a good shape so what we can do is enhance them. Some people have very small teeth and some have teeth with more uneven edges but we can add to them quite carefully and it does not require anaesthetic and or drilling. It just enhances the shape and is a nice thing to have in our armoury when we know we are not doing harm.”
She added that accessibility is an important part of Smmmile’s philosophy which is why a range of price packages and finance options are offered.
“We have really experienced treatment coordinators who can talk people through all the various options and help them choose whatever works best for them,” said Dr McGrath.
The clinic also has a patient experience co-ordinator to help relax people who might still feel wary about having treatment on their teeth.
“We do strive to make sure people have good experiences but we are fortunate that this is the type of dentistry that people typically want to get done. It is a real pleasure to arrange this kind of treatment for them,” Dr McGrath said.
