The Golden Lion in Goring, near Worthing, is set to be renamed The Castle.
The pub, at 7 The Strand, will remain under the ownership of Greene King despite the name change.
An application to change the signage on the pub was submitted to Adur and Worthing Councils on November 1, and received approval on January 22.
The pub is a 10 minute drive from Castle Goring, the 18th-century property that was once owned by Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein.

The new signage will feature gold-coloured individual letters spelling out ‘The Castle.’
The pub will reuse the post for its main sign, which will be externally illuminated with LED trough lights.
Additionally, amenity boards and a twin-posted sign will be installed on the site.
The design for the pub’s new sign (Image: Greene King) The rebranding of the pub was met with some opposition.
An objection was raised by a resident of The Strand regarding the twin-posted sign in the northwest site corner.
The objection stated that the sign, when considered cumulatively with the other signs, represents excessive overdevelopment and should be lowered if deemed necessary.
Despite the objection, the planning report concluded that the impact on visual amenity would not be harmful enough to warrant refusal.
The report also noted that the style of lighting for the signs is “reasonably discreet” and appropriate for the surrounding context.
