At around 4pm today, residents were left wondering what was going on when the city streets were cast in a sepia hue.

But there was no apocalypse or Saharan dust storm responsible – but rather just a particularly intense sunset.

The phenomenon appeared to have been specific to Brighton, as Seaford down the coast was unaffected.

Pictures have since been sent in to The Argus, showing the dazzling sight.

Photographs were sent from Worthing showing dramatic skies but the glow was not as intense as in Brighton.

You can send your sunset photos to the paper by emailing news@theargus.co.uk, or by sharing them on the Argus Camera Club on Facebook.
