The Tex-Mex fast-food restaurant, at 95-99 Western Road, had been open since January 2018.

However, a sign in the window now reads “this restaurant is now permanently closed”, and some of the letters on the shop front have been taken down, though Taco Bell’s website still says the store is open.

Loch Fyne, Pintxo People, Rock n Roller, Verano Lounge and Blockbuster have all previously closed down operations in the premises.

Recent Google reviews of the Taco Bell were mixed, with some praising the affordable food, but others less enthusiastic.

The site has seen a number of businesses come and go (Image: Voice of Hassocks) One customer said: “The worst Taco Bell I have been to.”

Another said: “This place has the worst food in Brighton. Well maybe not the worst, but top three definitely. I’ve eaten here twice and would never do it again.

“The staff aren’t too bad but the atmosphere feels like it’s haunted, as it’s only the staff in there. Probably because the food they give people is so atrocious.

“I feel like this is the sort of food hungover people get delivered, as they want something to disgusting to help poison the alcohol away.”

There is another Taco Bell store in Brighton and Hove, located at 134-135 London Road, one of around 8000 branches globally.
