A 41-year-old man was found dead at Nettleton Court on Upper Hollingdean Road this morning.

Forensics officers have been seen coming out of the block with hazmat suits on and three unmarked police vehicles were parked nearby.

A marked police car was parked outside the block.

In a statement, a spokesperson from Sussex Police said:

“Police are investigating after a 41-year-old man was found dead at a property in Upper Hollingdean Road, Brighton, just after 10am on Thursday (16 January).

An investigation into the circumstances of his death is underway, and the matter is currently being treated as unexplained.

“Officers have been deployed to the scene as enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone with information can report online or call 101, quoting Operation Marshgate.”

Local residents have shared their shock following the incident.

Max Crocker, 28, a resident at Dudeney Lodge, the block next to Nettleton Court, said: “We’ve been seeing a lot more police in the area, and everyone in these blocks have kind of been on high alert since.

“I just been out to take my dog for a walk with my missus, and we feel like we have to be extra careful with where we go.

“It makes us feel unsafe, and I really feel for the family of that person – I didn’t know him personally.

“Hopefully police find out what happened.”

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, described the incident as ‘awful’: “It’s really shocking to hear what has happened. Seems to be a lot of crime going on at the moment, and this just adds to that.

“I hope that the police figure out what happened, and the loved ones get some answers soon.”

Abdul, a shop keeper on Upper Hollingdean Road, said: “I heard about something happening here last night from my colleague.

“It’s really sad to hear what has gone on, and hopefully the police can get to the bottom of it.”
