Emergency services have been attending the incident on the A27 near Lewes since 3.30pm.
Sussex Police, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, South East Coast Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance Charity Kent Surrey Sussex (KSS) have all been in attendance.
A helicopter from KSS was dispatched to the area at 15.56pm.

A spokesman said: “Our crew arrived on scene at 15:56 where they worked with SECAmb, Sussex Police and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service to help treat the patient, involved in a road traffic collision.
“The patient was transported to hospital by road.”
Emergency services remain at the scene of the incident as of 5.30pm and congestion has reached up to three miles in the area.
