Emergency services responded to reports of a fire at a flat in Beaconsfield Road, Brighton on Friday at 15.46pm.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service initially dispatched two fire engines, but sent a third at 15.53pm as the situation escalated. An aerial ladder platform was also sent to the incident.

There were no reports of casualties.

A spokesman from East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel jet to tackle the fire. 

“The cause is under investigation.”

Sussex Police were also in attendance of the incident and whilst conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire, cannabis plants were discovered. 

A spokeswoman said: “Nobody is reported to have been in the house at the time and there are no reports of any injuries.

“No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

“Anyone with information about the fire or activity at the property can report it online or call 101 and quote serial 772 of 10/01.”
