A flurry of responses came through on Facebook, as News Shopper readers shared their tried-and-true methods for identifying south east Londoners abroad.
Many highlighted the distinct way south east Londoners speak as a major giveaway.
Valerie Anderson Gaskill said: “Apparently, I say, ‘Encha?’, a lot according to my West Yorks husband. So, that.”
Zoe Burton added: “We say you alright mate.”
Winter layers and distinctive outfits were another common theme in the responses.
Carol Martin said you might recognise a south east Londoner by them “wearing a Union Jack t-shirt.”
Sarah Cox added: “Socks and sandals.”
Jay Stephen chimed in: “Wear sliders with socks.”
Others noted that you can often hear a south east Londoner before you see them.
Nicola Antino said their “strong accent” is a giveaway.
