Perch on the Pier opened its doors to customers again after months of repairs to Worthing Pier forced it to shut its doors. But, with the whipping winds of Storm Darragh, the restaurant was briefly forced to shut its doors again this morning amid fears 60mph winds.
Now, the business has once again re-opened for business – and owner Alex Coombes said it was “very good” to see customers back in the restaurant ahead of the crucial Christmas period.
Alex said: “It’s dropped back below the safe wind threshold now – the wind is always a small risk for us.

“It was very good last night. We were very busy with Christmas parties.
“Christmas is an enormous bit of business for us in a particularly bleak winter. December is a great month while November and January are the quietest.”
After months of repairs and a temporary tress being placed below the pier, Perch was able to re-open on December 5 having had to put staff on furlough and “reduce the size of the team”.
Worthing Pier has now re-opened after being forced to close this morning due to the winds of Storm Darragh.
A spokesman for Adur and Worthing Councils said this morning they had chosen not to open “because of the storm force winds that are currently lashing the area”.
The councils added: “The gusts of up to 67mph that we’re currently experiencing mean that you’d struggle to be able to control how you walk up the pier – it’s not just a risk that you might fall into the sea, it’s that you could also suffer a nasty injury by hitting something on the deck.”
The Argus understands the pier re-opened shortly after 1pm.
