Gillingham’s League 2 game at Walsall next weekend has been postponed – because of international call-ups.
Opponents Walsall have four players who represent their national sides. It means the Gills will have two blank weekends this month.
While the game at Walsall is now off the Gills won’t be in action on Saturday, October 30 either, as that’s a weekend dedicated to FA Cup round two. Defeat to Blackpool last weekend in the competition means they won’t be involved.
The Gills host Port Vale this Saturday and then on Tuesday night take on League 1 Stevenage in their final EFL Trophy group stage match.
Victory at Stevenage will see them progress to the knockout stage, anything less and they’ll be out of that cup competition too.
Any tickets purchased for the Walsall match remain valid for the rearranged game. A date has yet to be agreed but it’s likely to be a midweek trip to the Midlands. Refunds are available.
Walsall’s international players include goalkeeper Tommy Simkin, who started for England under-20s in their last match.
Donervon Daniels and Brandon Comley both represent Montserrat while Liam Gordon represents Guyana.
