Big Beach Café was handed a one-star food hygiene rating from the Food Standards Agency after mouse droppings were found in the food areas of the Hove Lagoon business.
But staff at the DJ’s café said they are bringing the problem under control – and will shut for one day next month to allow experts to ensure the building is improved long-term.
A report from an inspection at the beginning of September said that the mouse droppings presented an “imminent risk to food safety”, and that improvements were necessary to get the kitchen back up to standard.
Peter Webb, one of the managers behind the Big Beach Café, told The Argus that the café had been taking the issue very seriously.
He added: “It’s a shock that it happened but we have tackled it.
“We discovered the problem was in the roof but all the procedures have now dramatically improved.
“We have taken this really seriously. We’re in a much better place now.”
Mr Webb told The Argus that the Big Beach Café, owned by Norman Cook, also known as Fatboy Slim, had hired a specialist to come in and put the final touches on fixes to the issues with mice.
He added the café would be forced to close for a single day at the beginning of November to deal with the issue.
The setback comes after Fatboy’s café was vandalised earlier this year.
Images shared on social media show one youngster holding what appeared to be part of a paving slab above his head and throwing it.
Further photographs show the extent of the damage with the café’s shutters warped and broken.
One 15-year-old admitted causing over £1,000 of damage after a group of boys smashed the window and destroyed a CCTV camera.
Fatboy Slim bought the Big Beach Café from former model and animal rights activist Heather Mills in 2013.
The ex-wife of Beatles star Paul McCartney ran what was then the vegan café V Bites for four years.
