Officers went to Priory School, Mountfield Road, Lewes, shortly after 2pm this afternoon.

Because of the nature of the threat, armed officers were sent to the scene and the school was locked down.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: “We are now satisfied that there was no substance to the threat made and a criminal investigation will now be undertaken to establish the identity of the person responsible.

“We would like to thank the school for working in partnership and acting so quickly to safeguard the children there.

“Also, the parents and the wider community for understanding and coping with the disruption caused.

“We would like to reassure students, staff, parents and the wider community that a policing presence will remain in the immediate vicinity of the school this afternoon.”
