Traffic Scotland announced that lane one of the southbound carriageway of the M74 at junction one (Kingston Interchange) is currently shut due to the incident.
It is understood the on-slip road at this junction was temporarily closed but has since reopened.
Emergency services are in attendance.
Drivers are told to expect delays and urged to use alternative routes.
A statement posted to Traffic Scotland’s X [formerly Twitter] account reads: “The M74 southbound is currently closed due to a vehicle fire.
“Emergency services are in attendance. Please use alternative routes where possible and expect delays.”

Police Scotland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have been contacted for comment.
