Carving a pumpkin and using it as a decoration is a fun activity that many take part in around this time of year.

Whilst finding one from a supermarket is useful, many people like the experience of going out to a farm to pick their own out.

Here are a few patches where you can pick out your own pumpkin in Sussex for Halloween this year.

Tulleys Pumpkin Farm

Address: Turners Hill Road, Turners Hill, Crawley, West Sussex, RH10 4PE

Arguably the most well-known pumpkin-picking patch in Sussex is Tulleys Farm.

It hosts a massive pumpkin festival each year with over 100 acres of farmland.

There are more than one million pumpkins and gourds to pick out this year.

Alongside picking your own pumpkin,  there are also photo opportunities, live roaming characters, a 33-metre tall observation wheel, street food and a bar.

It will be open on October 5-6, 11-13, 16-20 and 23-31 from 9.30 am to 5 pm each day (with last entry being at 4 pm).

Sompting Pumpkins

Address: Lychpole Farm, Halewick Lane, Sompting, BN15 0NE

Sompting Pumpkins will have 15 acres of pumpkins to pick from on October 5-6, 12-13, 19-20 and 26-31 from 10 am to 4 pm each day.

There is a large car park next to the site alongside food and drink stalls, craft activities and you can even catch a tractor ride.

Customers do not need to book a slot and there are no dogs allowed on the site.

Rogate Pumpkin Patch

Address: A272, Rogate, Petersfield GU31 5EG

Pumpkin picking at Rogate will take place every day from October 18 to 31.

There will be plenty of attractions and activities to keep the little monsters entertained.

Attractions around the site include Dracula’s Estate, Merlin’s Wood, the Enchanted Bubble Witch and the Giant Haystacks.

Elsewhere, you can go to a meet and greet with the Pumpkin Princess, enjoy autumn-themed stories and make the most of several photo opportunities around the site.

Once Halloween is over, a special three-day ‘Pumpkin Smash’ event will be held from November 1-3.

As the name suggests you’ll be able to smash up leftover pumpkins which will then be used to feed farm cattle and local wildlife over the winter months.

South Farm Pumpkins

Address: Rodmell, Lewes, East Sussex BN7 3FE

South Farm will open its pumpkin patch every day from October 19-31 from 10 am to 4 pm.

Its website adds: “We have lots of different varieties and sizes of pumpkins and squashes. They are priced from £1 upwards depending on size.

“There is plenty of free parking. Sometimes the field gets muddy so please wear suitable footwear. Dogs are welcome on a lead.”

Poynings Pumpkin Patch

Address: Poynings Road, Poynings, Brighton BN45 7AP

Poynings Pumpkin Patch will be open October 5-6, 12-13, 19-20 and 25-31 from 10am to 4pm.

No booking is needed for the site and there will also be photo opportunities which visitors can make the most of.

Additionally, there will be some food and drink options available.

Dell Quay PYO

Address: Birdham Road, Appledram, Chichester,

Dell Quay will have its pumpkin patch available from October 17-31.

It will be open every day in that period from 10 am to 4 pm.

There is free entry and free parking on-site, with some food and drinks stalls available also.

Address: Bignor Roman Villa, Bignor, Pulborough RH20 1PH

Bignor Farm’s Pumpkin Patch will be open October 5-6, 12-13, 19-20 and 26-31 from 10 am to 3.30 pm.

There is free admission to the patch, as you just pay for what pumpkins you pick out.

Toilets and refreshments are available on-site, whilst wheelbarrows and secateurs are available to borrow.
