Jessica Martin appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court earlier this week after she pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and drifting onto the opposite carriageway and into the path of another vehicle.

She also admitted to driving whilst her blood alcohol level was over the legal limit.

The court heard that Martin was driving along Bilsland Drive towards Maryhill Road at 2.40pm on December 5, 2023.

When approaching a junction, the 30-year-old allowed her vehicle to drift into the opposite carriageway and collided head-on with another car, being driven by Susanne Prah-Sandilands.

Both cars came to a complete stop and airbags were deployed.

This was seen by a witness, who called the police.

Martin was injured and taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary. She had a broken wrist and nose.

At 7pm, Martin, of Penilee, provided a sample of urine, then again at 8am. She was found to have 94 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of urine.

Her lawyer told the court: “She is extremely apologetic.

“She did not drink that morning but it’s a very high reading. She is glad that no one else was hurt.

“She has had a traumatic life. She has two young children. She may benefit from intervention from social work or supervision.

“She is willing to do anything, she accepts full responsibility. This is her first road traffic offence.

“She has a significant gap in her record.”

Sheriff Mary Shields told Martin: “I realise you have children to look after. If there are difficulties, speak to your solicitor.”

She was sentenced to 12 months of supervision and will be required to go to alcohol counselling.

She was also ordered to do 140 hours of unpaid work and was disqualified from driving for 27 months.
