He had been playing for Sheppey Sports FC this season and had previously been on the books of Chatham Town.

Described as a “big hit” on and off the pitch, Sheppey United manager Ernie Batten said the club had been shaken by the news. He said: “Apparently his family found him in the morning, but he had died in the night. I couldn’t believe it.”

He described Dylan, who was from Brixton, as “very talented”. Adding: “He was a really lovely and humble boy. Our players have all contributed to a GoFundMe page, including one lad who has donated two weeks of his wages, which I thought was quite touching.

“We’ll contribute as a club and ensure the lad gets an excellent send-off and his family feels supported.”

The fundraiser has already more than doubled its £1,000 original target.

Writing on Facebook, Sheppey Sports FC said: “We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of our player Dylan Akue at the age of just 21. Dylan – who won our Player of the Year award last season – joined us and was instantly a big hit both on and off the pitch. His ability to beat a player, create chances and score goals was worth the admission price alone.

“His raw talent was exceptional and he had the attitude and personality to match it.”

Sheppey Sports says it is due to play at Holm Park on Saturday, September 14 at 3pm against Sutton Athletic in the Kent Senior Trophy.

“Sheppey United is not scheduled to have a fixture on this date,” the club added.

“We are planning to arrange an event to try and get as many people to the game as possible to give Dylan a proper tribute through the game he loved ahead of the funeral in the coming weeks.”

Dylan, you will always be remembered by those who played alongside you

Staplehurst Monarchs United FC says a minute’s silence was held before its match against Sheppey Sports today.

“We would like to send our heartfelt condolences to all at Sheppey Sports, Dylan’s family and friends on the loss of such a talented and wonderful young man,” the club said.

Junior Elite FC in Beckenham says Dylan was with the club during the 2017/18 season as a “hardworking” midfielder.

“Though he was only with the club for one season, his presence left a mark on many of his teammates, some of whom still remember his passion and commitment on the pitch,” the club said. “Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Dylan, you will always be remembered by those who played alongside you.”

It is not yet known the cause of his death.
