Gillingham FC have called a meeting of shareholders with a view to removing former owner and chairman Paul Scally as club director.
Mr Scally ended his long run as club chairman when selling his majority control to American businessman Brad Galinson and his wife Shannon Hogan Galinson in December 2022.
During the initial period, Mr Scally was heavily involved, remaining on the club board and still holding a sizeable amount of shares.
In June, Mr Scally’s role was changed with Companies House to that of a non-executive director and he’s been absent from games since the start of the season.
Mr Galinson, club chairman since the takeover, has written to shareholders with a ‘notice of general meeting’.
The meeting is set for Thursday, October 10 at Priestfield Stadium.
The letter states that the meeting is for “the purpose of considering and, if thought fit, passing the resolution” which is that “Paul Damian Phillip Scally be and is hereby removed from their office as a director of the company with immediate effect.”
The letter is signed by Mr Galinson, by order of the board.
Mr Scally took charge of the club in 1995 and led them to the Championship before falling back down the leagues in the second half of his tenure. The takeover of the Galinsons came with the Gills bottom of League 2.
Since then, with investment from the Galinsons, they are tipped for promotion from the bottom tier this season, with hopes of rising through the leagues again.
