On May 2, 2024, Carlton Gregoire and two “criminal associates” travelled to Kent in a Hyundai.

They parked near to The Brent, covered their faces and climbed a lamppost.

This allowed them to get into the Dartford property by forcing a window open.

The two men, who were holding a knife and a bottle, threatened the occupant of the property.

Terrified, the victim fled and hid behind some cars until he saw the men leave.

Police were alerted and CCTV was recovered which showed the culprits arriving in the Hyundai.

It was then identified that the car had travelled from the Romford area prior to the incident and then returned there.

Police went on to prove that Gregoire, of Felsted Road, Newham, had accessed the vehicle and travelled to the scene when the offence was committed.

On June 4, Gregoire was arrested at an address in Romford.

The 29-year-old was later charged with aggravated burglary and pleaded guilty at Maidstone Crown Court.

Today (August 30), he was sentenced to three years and nine months in prison.

Detective Sergeant Richard Taylor, of the Kent Crime Squad, said: “This was a terrifying incident for the victim who had no idea why his home had been targeted.

“It is fortunate he was able to flee and avoid suffering any injury, but he will continue to be affected by his ordeal.

“This type of crime is always a priority for us and a prompt investigation ensured we were able to identify one of the perpetrators and then recover sufficient evidence to place him safely behind bars.”
