A 17-year-old boy was arrested following a manhunt in Hailsham, near Eastbourne, after the body of a man was discovered in the town center.

Emergency services found the victim, a man in his 20s, with a stab wound in the Vicarage Field area around 6:20 p.m. The man was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene, and his family has been informed.

This morning, officers and detectives are investigating the incident and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Chief Inspector James Scott commented, “This is a tragic incident that will understandably distress the community. Our thoughts are with the victim’s family as we work to determine the circumstances surrounding this event.”

Following the stabbing, police cordoned off several locations including the High Street, Vicarage Field shopping center, and a nearby churchyard. Green barriers were erected to keep the public away from the scene.

Chief Inspector Scott added, “The significant police presence will continue in the area to support the investigation and provide reassurance. If you have any concerns, please speak with an officer. We are also asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact the police online or via 101, quoting Operation Par.”

The teenage suspect was located at a property in town later on Thursday evening and remains in police custody.
