It is understood a man fell from the upper tier of a stand at the Suffolk club’s Portman Road stadium where away fans were sitting, onto home supporters below, during the game on January 27.

Suffolk Police has now confirmed a 60-year-old man from Chatham has been summonsed to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on September 16.

He is due to be formally charged with one count of assault causing actual bodily harm and two counts of assault by beating.

Maidstone United pulled off one of the biggest shocks in FA Cup history by beating Ipswich Town 2-1.

Barriers have since been added to the upper tier of the Cobbold Stand as part of improvements to the Portman Road stadium.
