Kent edged closer to relegation after succumbing to Worcestershire on the fourth day of their Vitality County Championship Division 1 match on Sunday.
Worcestershire, promoted last summer, set a target of 101 runs after dismissing Kent for 353-8, with Tom Taylor and Joe Leach claiming the final two wickets.
Despite losing openers Gareth Roderick and Jake Libby early, Worcestershire secured the win thanks to an unbeaten 69-run partnership between Kashif Ali (52 not out) and Rob Jones (23 not out).
Kent’s batting woes continued as they lost 10 wickets for just 98 runs, despite starting their innings strongly at 73-0.
Kent’s Tawanda Muyeye had earlier scored a career-best 211, but was dismissed late on Saturday.
Akeem Jordan, making his Championship debut, contributed with the bat but was out for a quick 4. Taylor and Leach were instrumental in dismissing the remaining Kent batsmen, with Taylor taking four wickets and Leach claiming the final one.
Worcestershire’s Gareth Roderick completed his fourth catch of the innings, bringing his season total to over 100 dismissals.
In Worcestershire’s chase, Jordan’s early wicket of Roderick and Jake Libby’s dismissal by Garrett left the hosts at 33-2. Rain delayed play by 40 minutes, causing the loss of 10 overs. However, Kashif Ali’s aggressive innings ensured a smooth finish, with his half-century sealing the match.
