The CPR training sessions took place at two venues: Al Furqan Mosque and Al Huda Islamic Centre.
Organized by community member Shabir Beg and conducted by Scottish Ambulance Service paramedics in collaboration with the Save a Life for Scotland team, the events emphasized the life-saving importance of CPR.
The initiative was inspired by a personal incident in 2023 when Shabir’s son, Simon, suffered a cardiac arrest at an event. He was assisted by someone who knew CPR and promptly called for emergency medical help.
Shabir Beg expressed his gratitude: “As a father, my family and I deeply appreciate the Scottish Ambulance Service and recognize the crucial need for CPR training. At Al Huda Islamic Centre, we are launching a long-term project to increase CPR and defibrillator awareness. We are thankful to paramedics Claire, Leigh, and Harry for teaching these essential skills to our community.”
At the second event, Simon appeared to thank the SAS team members who played a crucial role in his recovery.
Michael Dickson, Chief Executive of Scottish Ambulance Service, stated, “CPR and defibrillator use are critical components of survival for out-of-hospital cardiac arrests. We encourage everyone to learn CPR, and we are pleased to support these events. Our thanks go to the Al Gilani and Al Huda foundations and the Save a Life for Scotland team for their contributions.”
