A mother and her son from St Peter’s Street, Brighton, were forced to flee their home last week after a fire erupted in their living room, quickly spreading throughout the house. Thick black smoke poured from the windows and doors, shocking onlookers.
East Sussex firefighters responded to the emergency at 11:20 a.m., deploying four fire engines and multiple crews to control the blaze using hose jets. According to a spokeswoman for the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, the fire, which started on the ground floor of the terraced house, spread to the first floor. Thankfully, the occupants escaped safely, and the fire is being treated as accidental.
In response to the devastating loss, Eleesha Painter has started a fundraising campaign to support her mother-in-law, a single disabled woman, and her autistic teenage son. Ms. Painter shared on her fundraising page that the fire destroyed everything in minutes, leaving the family with nothing. Having lived in the home for 22 years, the mother-in-law raised her three children there, welcomed her daughter and son-in-law, and watched her seven grandchildren grow up in that house. Ms. Painter is seeking to raise funds to help replace furniture, clothing, and other essentials during this difficult time.
