Eastbourne RNLI crews were completing a training exercise in the lifeboat shortly before 3pm on Monday when they spotted the teenagers being blown away from the shoreline.

The crew made their way to the youngsters who said they were struggling to get back to the beach.

Two of the teenagers were transferred to the lifeboat and two were kept on the paddleboard.

They were all returned to the beach and given safety advice, including a reminder to take a phone out to sea with them in a waterproof pouch.

The RNLI encourage anyone using paddleboards to always wear a buoyancy aid, tell someone where they’re going and to carry a means of communication.

People are urged to check the weather beforehand and to not venture too far away from the shore in case of emergency.

Anyone in trouble out at sea should call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
