Gillingham has bolstered their squad for the upcoming season with the addition of former Charlton player Euan Williams.

Williams, who impressed during the pre-season matches and scored against Watford at Priestfield, has been a key presence on the field. Gillingham’s manager Mark Bonner mentioned on Saturday that they were looking to strengthen their attacking options, and the 21-year-old Williams provides them with additional versatility.

Williams began his professional journey at Charlton in 2020 under the guidance of Anthony Hayes, the former academy coach who is now Gillingham’s assistant manager. Released by Charlton this summer after his contract expired, Williams had been with the club since he was seven.

During his time at Charlton, Williams made his sole first-team appearance in the EFL Trophy two years ago against Gillingham, coming on as a late substitute in a 3-0 victory for Charlton.

As an attacking midfielder, Williams has represented both Northern Ireland and England at youth levels and has been mentored by Hayes since he was 13. Williams expressed his satisfaction with his integration into the Gillingham squad, highlighting the positive experience of the pre-season matches.

Describing his playing style, Williams said: “I am very high energy, I like to play forward and run forward, making runs behind the defense. I am neat and tidy on the ball and create chances. Hopefully, I can contribute with a few goals as well.”
