Medway’s Nathan Hales has claimed Olympic gold at the Paris Games.

The 28-year-old won in the trap shooting final on Tuesday.

He set a new Olympic record on the way to winning his gold medal – Team GB’s third of the Games – after holding off the challenge of China’s Qi Ying.

The final took place at the National Shooting Centre, Chateauxroux with world record holder Hales beating Ying and Jean Pierre Brol to take the win.

A final score of 48 out of 50 shots is a new Olympic record, just one short of his world record of 49.

Hales was making his Olympic debut having secured his place at Paris 2024 with a silver at the World Championships in Croatia.

He went into the Olympics in top form by breaking the trap world record last year at the ISSF World Cup stage.

He’s a former European and World champion at the team events and can now add an Olympic gold to his list of honours.
