Jodie Grinham aims to inspire women everywhere by competing in the Paris Paralympics while pregnant, representing ParalympicsGB in compound archery.
At 30, Jodie will be participating in her second Games, following her silver medal win in the mixed team event at Rio 2016. The Crawley resident, who is expecting her second child and is currently 28 weeks pregnant, said, “This experience is quite different for me. On one hand, I’m the athlete, feeling relieved, excited, and thoroughly prepared. On the other, I’m the mother who will miss home and my son while competing.”
Jodie, originally from Wales, gave birth to her son Christian in October 2022. She expressed her desire to bring home another medal, not only for her own achievements but also to demonstrate that competing while pregnant is possible and successful.
Born with Brachysyndactyly, a condition resulting in a shortened left arm, underdeveloped left shoulder, and partial fingers on her left hand, Jodie won silver with John Stubbs in the compound mixed team event at the Rio Games. She has now been selected to compete in Paris alongside Tokyo gold medallist Phoebe Paterson Pine, Nathan MacQueen—returning for his third Games—and debutant Victoria Kingstone.
Jodie’s Paralympic journey begins on August 29 with the opening round of the Women’s compound archery. If she advances to the medal matches, she could potentially secure a gold medal by August 31. The Games officially commence on August 28.
