Emergency crews rushed to Junction 13 (Provan Interchange) on the M8 following reports of a multi-vehicle collision in Glasgow’s East End. The incident, which occurred shortly after 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24, involved three vehicles, including a police car.
Initial reports indicated the crash involved a Mercedes A45, an unmarked Volvo S90 police car, and a Mercedes CLS, all of which were positioned on the hard shoulder of the eastbound carriageway.
After the crash, three occupants from the Mercedes A45 fled the scene, but later, three men aged 27, 33, and 39 were apprehended. Seven men, including two police officers, were transported to the hospital. The condition of a 48-year-old police officer, a 43-year-old man, and a 39-year-old man has been described as critical, while a 38-year-old police officer and a 33-year-old man are in serious condition. Another individual is being treated for minor injuries.
A 27-year-old man, who is also being treated for minor injuries, has been arrested in connection with the crash. The eastbound carriageway of the motorway remains closed for investigation, with a diversion in place for motorists.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and check any dash-cam footage that may be relevant to the incident. Chief Superintendent Hilary Sloan, Head of Road Policing for Police Scotland, urged anyone with information to contact them.
Deputy Chief Constable Jane Connors expressed concern for the injured officers and members of the public, commending their dedication and promising support for their families.
