Police on the Spanish island of Tenerife have reported finding a “lifeless body,” with indications suggesting it could be 19-year-old Jay Slater.
The statement from the authorities indicated that the deceased, believed to be the missing teenager from Oswaldtwistle, may have suffered an accidental fall.
A police statement read: “The mountain rescue and intervention group of the Civil Guard has located the lifeless body of a young man in the Masca area after 29 days of constant search.
“Given the complexity of the case, the discovery has been made possible thanks to the incessant and discreet search carried out by the Civil Guard during these 29 days, ensuring the natural space was not disturbed by curious onlookers.
“All indications suggest it could be the young British man who has been missing since June 17, pending full identification.
“Initial investigations reveal he may have suffered an accidental fall in the inaccessible area where he was found.”
Spanish radio station Canarias Radio also reported the Civil Guard’s discovery of a body in the village of Masca.
Jay, an apprentice bricklayer, was on holiday with friends when he went missing on June 17. After a night out, he was last seen heading to a property and attempting to walk home in the early hours.
Thousands of pounds were raised to support the search for Jay, with his family traveling to Tenerife to assist in the search efforts.
