The shared hub in Gartcosh will combine the existing Gartcosh Primary School and community hall with new facilities aimed to support the growing population and future housing projects.

BDP was selected to develop a detailed design concept for the new hub.

Lindsey Mitchell, architect director at BDP, said: “The goal of this project is to foster a sense of community by creating shared spaces and facilities that benefit everyone.

“To have the opportunity to design a space that not only meets the educational needs of Gartcosh but also serves as a vibrant community hub, is incredibly fulfilling.”

The new building will be built on the current primary school’s grounds, significantly expanding its capacity from 188 to 434 pupils.

It will also include new Additional Support Needs provision, early years provision, community facilities, a nursery, and a language and communications skills centre.

The planned communal hub will be a two-storey structure featuring a double-height atrium connecting the junior and senior schools.

The bright central area will offer a space for socialising, dining, teaching, and learning.

Beyond educational facilities, the new hub will provide staff spaces and amenities open to the local authority.

Civic features like a community hall and gardens will link the hub to the broader Gartcosh community, promoting involvement and inclusivity.

The planning approval allows construction to start.

There will be a Statutory Education Consultation to relocate the school, and consultations with all stakeholders will guide the building design.
