East Grinstead and Uckfield MP Mims Davies and Arundel and South Downs MP Andrew Griffiths have both been given shadow ministerial roles following the electoral downfall of Conservative politicians at the ballot box on July 4.

Ms Davies will take up the role of shadow women and equalities secretary while Mr Griffiths has been appointed shadow science, innovation and technology secretary.

The roles were previously held by Kemi Badenoch and Michelle Donelan respectively prior to the General Election.

Mr Griffiths will take up his role opposite Hove MP Peter Kyle, who was appointed science, innovation and technology secretary on Friday.

Both Ms Davies and Mr Griffiths have prior ministerial experience. Ms Davies served as under secretary of state in a number of roles under Theresa May, Boris Johnson and Sunak while Mr Griffiths was previously minister for science, research and innovation.

Mims Davies survived in her role as MP after moving from the Mid Sussex constituency, which the Tories lost to the Lib Dems, to the newly created East Grinstead and Uckfield seat.

Mr Griffiths held on to the safe Tory seat of Arundel and South Downs.
