Michelle Wibowo, a renowned food artist from Haywards Heath, celebrated International Sushi Day by crafting celebrity portraits using traditional sushi elements like rice, smoked salmon, and pickled ginger. Each sushi head, measuring 18cm tall and 10cm wide, featured humorously named pieces such as ‘Eelton John,’ ‘Bukayo Saké,’ and ‘Alison Salmond’ and ‘Dermot Roe’Leary’ from This Morning.

The sushi art was displayed for a one-day exhibition at Casildart Gallery in London. Michelle, 45, shared her excitement about working with sushi ingredients, saying, “It was really fascinating to see how many ingredients there are for making sushi and how these can be used to create intricate details for the face and hair. I hope people find the portraits as hilarious as I do and maybe even feel inspired to have a go themselves to mix things up in the kitchen. Remember, all art is subjective.”

The sculptures were created with the help of Yutaka, a Japanese food brand that provided the ingredients. Ken Furukawa, CEO of Tazaki Foods, the company behind Yutaka, stated, “We wanted to create an exhibition that celebrates the diversity and creativity of Japanese cuisine and inspires you to be adventurous at home in the kitchen. Sushi has become somewhat of a national dish here in the UK, so it felt right to honor this special relationship by recreating some of Britain’s most iconic faces out of Yutaka’s own sushi-making ingredients.”Source link
