The Crystal Palace on Jamaica Street in the city centre could put forward plans to the council for hotel rooms in the space directly above its bar.
JD Wetherspoon submitted a proposal of application notice this week to Glasgow City Council indicating that they may submit official plans for a hotel.
It comes after a previous proposal to build a hotel on the empty land next to the pub was scrapped in 2019 as it was met with objections by neighbouring club Sub Club.

The building itself back to the Victorian era.
Its distinctive design of arch windows built using cast iron frames was inspired by the Crystal Palace in London’s Hyde Park, a greenhouse which dazzled visitors at the 1851 Great Exhibition.
It had over a hundred windows, was 600 yards long and tall enough to contain the park’s trees.

The Crystal Palace operated as a furniture warehouse until the pub giant Wetherspoons took over, and this is still recognised on the building’s front façade where you can see the ‘A Gardner & Son Cabinet Makers’ sign.
The pub has two large bars, one on each floor, and the building’s original lift is still in operation.
