“A video depicting parking wardens from a council stopping on double yellow lines while issuing a fine has sparked controversy. The incident, reportedly filmed in Olympia Way, Whitstable on June 18, shows two enforcement officers from Canterbury City Council issuing a ticket to a motorist.
In the video, the wardens’ van is seen parked on double yellow lines, a zone where parking is strictly prohibited by Kent County Council at all times. When questioned by the person recording the video, one of the officers can be heard justifying their parking by stating it was for an emergency to issue the ticket.
The footage, widely circulated on social media, has drawn criticism, with one observer condemning the actions as “disgusting and a disgrace.” It’s important to note that there is no implication that the original fine issued by the wardens was incorrect.
Councillor Connie Nolan (Lab), the cabinet member responsible for enforcement, expressed disappointment in the video’s contents, emphasizing that nobody is exempt from following parking regulations, regardless of their role.
The council’s fines, issued through enforcement officers, contribute to funding further enforcement efforts, with officers not receiving a portion of the fines as remuneration, unlike litter wardens.
A council spokesperson acknowledged the concerns raised in the video and assured that an internal investigation is underway to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
