This morning, emergency repairs closed a lane and exit slip-road on the A27 westbound at the A283 Shoreham flyover due to bridge damage.
On Sunday, two crashes on the A27 caused significant congestion, with queues stretching nearly four miles and delays exceeding an hour.
One crash resulted in bridge parapet damage after a driver collided with the central reservation, leading to the closure of the A27 westbound between the A283 and A2025.
Emergency repair work on the bridge caused “severe delays” of up to 25 minutes on the A27 Old Shoreham Road westbound, with delays of up to 12 minutes on the eastbound carriageway. Heavy traffic persisted until around 11.30 am.
Another crash near the Southwick tunnel on Sunday involved three vehicles—a motorbike and two cars. Firefighters provided first aid, and a casualty was handed over to South East Coast Ambulance Service.
The weekend also saw tragic fatalities, including a 34-year-old motorcyclist from Eastbourne and a Porsche driver, in separate incidents in the eastern part of the county.
