Protesters Offering Free Ice Cream with a Poop Theme to Raise Awareness about Sewage Discharges in Sussex’s Waterways and Advocate for Change from the New Government.

Campaign group 38 Degrees is orchestrating this creative initiative as beach enthusiasts and swimmers continue to highlight the issue of sewage pollution on Sussex’s beaches.

Matthew McGregor, the CEO of 38 Degrees, emphasized the seriousness behind this lighthearted gesture, stating, “Our coastline faces a serious threat, and it’s time for action. While our ice creams won’t actually include any human waste, unlike the picturesque Brighton coastline, the message remains crucial.”

He added, “Residents and visitors in Brighton don’t want to encounter sewage in the seas, especially when it comes to their children’s safety. The upcoming Prime Minister has a significant opportunity to address this issue.”

The protest aims to gather signatures for a petition urging the new Prime Minister to take decisive steps to eliminate sewage discharges.

This action follows a notable increase in sewage spills by Southern Water in 2023 compared to the previous year, prompting heightened concerns among beachgoers and swimmers. The creatively themed ice cream van will be stationed at The Plaza by Hove Lawns until 4 pm today, engaging the public and spreading awareness about this critical environmental issue.
