“Gillingham’s Players to Encounter Fresh Changes at Priestfield Upon Return
When Gillingham’s players step back into Priestfield next month, they’ll find more than just new faces on the squad. The club has undergone internal developments, investing in facility upgrades to enhance the working environment for both players and staff.
Gillingham’s Managing Director, Joe Comper, shared insights into the ongoing changes post-season. Among the transformations are improvements to the players’ lounge, aimed at creating a more comfortable and conducive space. Additionally, office renovations have taken place to foster a better working culture.
Comper highlighted the emphasis on consolidating football staff on one floor, promoting better interaction and alignment among different departments. This includes bringing together the recruitment team, first-team coaches, and academy staff under one roof, fostering a unified approach and shared vision.
Despite the previous successful pre-season tour to Como, the club opted to redirect those funds into ground enhancements this year. Comper emphasized the long-term benefits of investing in facilities like the players’ lounge, catering equipment, and overall infrastructure, aiming to instill pride and gratitude among the players for their environment.
While Beechings Cross, the club’s training base, currently meets League 2 standards in terms of space and pitch quality, there are ongoing discussions regarding potential long-term upgrades. Comper mentioned exploring options with local partners and the council but clarified that significant changes are not on the immediate agenda for this summer.”
