Environmental Health Officers in Glasgow have issued Health & Safety Prohibition Notices against a business located in the city’s West End following an inspection. This action comes after a previous ban was imposed on an English-based firm and an individual practitioner earlier this month due to a medical incident involving a woman.
The specific business in question has not been named. The Glasgow Times interviewed a woman who spent five days in the hospital following a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) procedure carried out by an English-based firm at a pop-up clinic in a city center hotel.
The new notices prohibit the business from conducting non-surgical aesthetic buttock augmentation procedures, commonly known as Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBLs). The inspection revealed inadequate measures to ensure the health and safety of individuals undergoing BBL procedures.
Additionally, another notice pertains to lip filler procedures. The business is banned from using hyaluronidase, a prescription-only substance used to dissolve dermal lip filler.
The inspection raised concerns about the practice’s ability to handle potential emergencies effectively. Insufficient protocols, medications, and policies were noted regarding preventing and addressing emergency situations like infections, allergic reactions, or anaphylaxis arising from the procedures. Furthermore, the competency of those performing the procedures and their awareness of associated risks were not adequately demonstrated.
Failure to comply with these notices may lead to legal consequences, including possible prosecution, imprisonment, fines, or both. Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Neighbourhood Services, emphasized the importance of such inspections in safeguarding public health and safety.
The business has a 21-day window to appeal these notices.
