Gillingham’s pre-season lineup gains clarity with the announcement of another match. The team is set to face off against Southend United, a National League side, in a friendly scheduled for Saturday, July 27 at Roots Hall. Kick-off for this game is slated for 1pm.
Southend United, led by former Gills midfielder Kevin Maher, achieved a commendable ninth-place finish in the National League last season despite starting with a 10-point deduction due to an HMRC debt in August 2023.
This fixture follows Gillingham’s home friendly against Watford, a Championship team, on Saturday, July 20 at Priestfield. Watford, now under new head coach Tom Cleverley, concluded their season in 15th place.
Additionally, the club has confirmed another friendly against Dartford, managed by former Gills boss Ady Pennock, on Tuesday, July 23. Gillingham XI teams are also scheduled for pre-season friendly matches against Chatham on July 19 and Sheppey on July 26.
