The inmate scaled the roof of the Riddrie prison on Tuesday morning after ‘bolting’ from an area near the C and D halls.
He was said to be throwing his shoes down from the roof and shouting.
A prison insider told the Scottish Sun: “The prisoner was moving from one block to the next when he bolted and jumped on the roof.
“The lag was causing chaos and chucked his shoes from the roof while shouting and swearing.”
The Scottish Prison Service confirmed to the Glasgow Times that the incident occurred and said that staff brought the man down safely.
There are not thought to be any injuries.
A Scottish Prison Service spokesperson said: “I can confirm an incident took place at HMP Barlinnie.
“This was safely resolved by staff. No injuries were reported.”
